I noticed during your demo that you didn't add a status date, and the system did not catch that it was missing. Will any sort of a status date feature be added for "New Household"'s are being entered?

Either a default (date entered) status date, or a feature that notices that it is missing, just like the partial address feature that you have added to the HH features.

looks good curtis. have you tested it with apartment numbers? this was the issue that I know we reported... when inputting an apartment number it was getting removed. one of the issues we identified was that the NCOA database would accept it either way.

How does it handle actual vs acceptable city names for a zip code?  Our example is that 97223 shows up with Portland as the primary city name in the USPS database (http://zip4.usps.com/zip4/citytown_zip.jsp), but most of the residents of that zip code are actually in Tigard.  It doesn't matter for mail delivery, but it generates a strong emotional response when we put out a directory.

Curtis-this looks great!  When is the estimated release date?

Only problem I see with this is all your zip code reports will now be listed WITH the four digits in the zip code field, so if you wanted a report of the number of households per zip code the numbers would be skewed because some are listed in the 12345-1234 zip code and others are listed in the 12345-5678 zip code. If the last four digits of the zip code were in a separate field the zip code reports could work of that automatic addition, but as it presently stands the auto addition severely hurts or even eliminates the use of the reports that key off the zip code.

So glad you are releasing this, it looks great.  One question is what is the date of release? We are anxious.

One thing you didn't mention, is the previous address function still available?

Can attributes be added immediately?  I've noticed that this is not possible now, I have to go away from that individual and come back in order to add an attribute.

Curtis - I liked what I saw but have a couple of questions.  I watched the video twice trying to determine if you had added back the much missed information regarding the "system generated date" (Last Update) that used to appear when an address was added, updated or changed (as happens with phone numbers).  I could not tell for sure if that  feature has been added back. I really really miss that information and I do hope that it is a part of this upgrade.

Also,as Mark Rust indicated above, I want to know for sure I can still type in any "small town" and it's zip code and not have the "system" default to the primary zip code "larger city" nearby.

That was nightmare for a while.

I also still want to be able to add apartment numbers to line 1 of the address if I want to. I could not tell by your example if that would still be possible...or would they default to line two as they did for a while.

This looks good, with a couple of questions:  1)  When it 'automatically' updates the address, does it use upper and lower case and update with the formatting exactly with the United States Postal Service, i.e.:  formatting with apartment on the same line, no punctuation, Saint Louis spelled out, etc.?  The reason I am asking is because we are a large ministry and do mass mailings to thousands of people at a time.  We have to stay within the USPS guidelines for addresses in order to keep the amount of returned mail down to allow us to continue to have the reduced postage rate for bulk mail.  I'm glad to see that it is adding the 4-digit tag on the postal code.  2)  When we are 'creating a household', can we have the option of entering the household address as something other than Primary please.  If we have a partial address, say with no Apartment number for example, we still enter the address; however, we turn it to 'mail returned/incorrect' and make a note in the Comment Section of "Incomplete Address" and then we watch for more information or contact the person via phone.  With the New View in January we lost the ability to create a new household with an address of MRI or any other status except Primary.  So, we currently have to create it as primary, then remember to go back in and change to 'Mail Returned/Incorrect'.  This is time consuming.  3)  Can we have the date history return to the address section as it was before the New View in January.  F1 still keeps date history for other contact info, but in January dropped all date history in the address section.  

I like the new look of the screen and it looked like we will be able to see more on the screen and not have to scroll down as much.  This is great.  I also like the feature of it telling us that something may be missing from the address.  I think this will cut down on errors.  I also like that we can bypass this and choose to stay with what we entered, if we want.

Looks like a good improvement to the workflow for Add Household. I noticed in the demo that the default country was United Kingdom. Interesing! As a London-based church we would love for the address cleaning to work for us too! We pay our dues as well! Any chance that you will clean up UK data too?

It looks like Church status is now a mandatory field, which I like.  Is that correct?

I like the screen layout and that communication can be attributed to individuals without having to change screens. This will save time - thank you.

Question: When a correct address is entered, will we still be brought to the address verification screen?

I agree with all of the above post: please auto-populate the status date; please verify the ability to save a previous address.

This looks very good and will be sincerely welcome to relieve the burden of manual address verification.  Because of the mobility of our large church membership and its many campuses, we need clear access to previous address as well as secondary, college, etc.  These multiple address sources help immensely as a discriminator to assist us in properly identifying people.

we downsized & lost the web version.  I haven't keep up to much with the happenings on all your changes.  We may be looking at coming back to you & leaving the other service, but am curious to know that in the address entry if there isn't already can one be established to identify duplicate entries when adding in a new household.  I've noticed that several times a family has been entered & when searched, it doesn't show up but after entering you go to pull up by just entering a couple letters of the first & last name, that yep there are 2, 3 or more in there, sometimes they are identical others may have 1 letter or # diff.  Can you have it that when you go to add a name that you will receive a pop up either one showing that there is one similar to the one your entering do you wish to continue &/or a pop up with the names in the field filling in as you type them in as if you we working say in quickbooks & entering the payable field how it works.  JAT, trying to streamline & make the process as easy as possible for the end user (customer).

I admit that since we first came on line with you & after we change, that you have made your system a little more user friendly.  Also may be contacting you to see how & if your system can function on some areas that we are using in the new system we are running on.

Is there a way that we only have to enter the last name once for the household? If we need to make a correct to the name it only has to be done once, instead of editing each family member for fix the error?

Absolutely!  The apartment number won't be removed from the verified address.  As well, if you don't include an apartment number for an address that is known to have apartment numbers, suites, etc., you'll be prompted for an apartment number.  You'll also have the option to continue without an apartment number.

In the new Address Verification System, you'll be prompted for which city that you'd like to use for the address entered.

In your example, if you enter Tigard and the zip code of 97223, the next screen will prompt you if you want to use Tigard or suggested city of Portland.  The decision will be up to the Data Entry person.

The Address Verification tool has always created the ZIP+4 postal code.  We do have Zip Code reports in place now that handle the first 5 digits of the zip code correctly.  For example, check out report P9100 - Zip Code Demographics.  The report will show the number of households or individuals within the list 5 digit zip code.

If there is a specific zip code report that is not reporting as expected our Report Writers would be happy to correct it or enhance it for you.  Please create a Support Ticket for the specific report using the Support link in the Fellowship One Portal.

Currently, adding Attributes are under the Indivdiual screen and it's also available when entering a Contact Form (First Time Guest Form).  If it's not correctly available on the Contact Form, ask your Fellowship One Champion to add it to the form.

Thank YOU! We have really missed the address verification process and appreciate the time you have put in to restore and enhance it.  My question involves updating the addresses that we have entered into the system during the time that this feature has been turned off.  We've run the A1008 report to find the "unverified" addresses and have manually reviewed those addresses to check on their accuracy & completeness ... but, of course, we still have plenty that need to be cleansed.  Will there be a way to "trigger" the verification process on editing those existing addresses?

Mark,  Currently I add new visitors, but do not do the contact form- someone else does that.  However, I need to add an attribute (library patron - used for an export to Surpass Library Progam) to each person.  After entering their information and "saving" them the individual screen that pops up shows contact forms and involvement, but NOT attributes. It would be helpful if that were available.  As it is now, I have to move on to another person, then when I return to the 1st individual's record the  Attributes is avalable and I can add the one I need.

We've definitely heard the feedback on the absence of the Last Update field that used to display for an address, phone number, email address, etc.  We WILL be adding this back with this enhancement.  While adding information to the Household/Individual screens, we're trying to keep it as clean as possible.  In doing so, the Last Update will appear as you hover over the address, phone number, email address, etc.

Please see my comments to Mark Rust concerning the city entry that autopopulates for a zip code.

Apartment numbers will default to Address Line 2.  However, you do have the option of keeping them on Address Line 1.  If do keep it to line 1, the address will not be verified.

When a correct address is entered, the address will be verified and they will NOT be taken into the address verification screen.  You'll be taken directly into the Household View screen.

This looks great, but I'd like to know what the expected release date of this would be? =)

A few things:

When we enter a new person, we almost always give them an attribute or participant assignment. So, it would be nice when you add each individual to the household if you were given the option to add these items then. It creates a lot of room for us to forget to add these things when we have to finish adding the household, then go back to each individual and give them their attributes or assignments. This feature would be a great help!

With the address verification, will the system run a check on everything that already exists in our database?

Can we request that?

Also, when we enter someone, can the system check for the duplicates? This is a feature that is in place with many other software programs that I use and it would be a great thing to have here. As much as we search ahead of time, the duplicates still happen sometimes and it seems to me that the system should help us with that...

I concur with other users that we need some type of duplicate tinker that would show another duplicate in the system.  This would greatly reduce adding a record that currently resides in the database.  There are other systems in the market place that checks for duplicates.  Adding this feature will continue to bring value to F1.

Additionally, it would be great if the system would go back and correct any addresses that are not certified in our databases.

This may have already been covered but can you add "Edit Household" to the gear from the search screen like "Edit Individual" currently is on the gear?  Right now you have to "View Household" and then click on "Edit Household".  Thanks!

I just tried to log in to the staging environment using all of my normal F1 credentials and it wouldn't allow me to log in and give it a test. Will this be fixed soon? I'm very eager to give it a try!!!

I just tried creating a new household with my address, and the city name was forced by address verification to be the primary city name. #FAIL

I've looked at http://zip4.usps.com/zip4/citytown_zip.jsp and with my zip code (97223) it definitely shows that "Tigard" is an acceptable city name.  What happened to the fix mentioned above?

I just tried to login to the Staging environment as stated in today's newsletter and it won't let me in.  I'm using my normal credentials.

After searching for someone and determining that they need to be added, I would like F1 to auto-populate the first and last name with the searched for individual. When adding additional family members, I would like the last name to auto-populate. This would be a great time-saver.

Also, if the status comment area is not going to allow anything over 200 characters, then please make it so that you can't type more than what is allowed. I don't want to type my comment and then click save to find out it's too long by getting an error message.

Apartment numbers are being erased from Address 1 & Address 2 fields.

I would love to see if it is possible while you are adding a new household address if a search could be done to find an identical address already in the database.

I, like Stacy Fleck and wprude, would love to see if there is a possibility to have the system run a check on everything that already exists in our database to be verified. It is very time consuming to go into every household to have the address verified.

Would also love to have a duplicate notification feature for all data entered. Very, very important!

Also, looking for a feature that allows visitors/guests to have a different primary address and contact info from their host family. Currently, when adding a guest or visitor's different address to an existing family, it changes the existing family's primary address. None of the dropdowns describe what we're trying to enter. We don't want to make guests/visitors/family members from far away a new household.

8/21/09  Curtis, One thing I noticed.  when entering a new individual, you can no longer enter a birthdate as 41497 - you must enter 4/14/1997 or it deletes it.

I put in an address that had an Apt #, deleted the apt number to see what it would do.  It verified the address with no Apt #.

We would really love to have the date the address (regardless of type of address) was last updated show beside it like it does for phone numbers and email addresses.

It will notify that an apt # is needed on a new record, but not on an address that is being edited.  Can't we have it do both.

It looks like a nice idea. But when I tried it in my staging area, it didn't do the address cleansing. It took the incomplete address as a real one. Hmmm. Also, the address block didn't have a place for apartment numbers, so how would it know I needed one?

Looks promising however, I'm curious if the address cleansing works the same for people who create an account online or in the upcoming groups 2.0?

This looks good, easy to access and brings you through all of the required fields when entering a new household.  Wondering if the status date will automatically fill in? We use that status date to run many reports and it would be nice to have it fill in automatically as it currently does.

We frequently use Goes by and Former name. I would like to see that in the first/last/name rather than having to select "more fields".

I would like to be able to edit everyone in the household from the same screen. It would be faster to update statuses, etc.

Would it be possible to save page settings when editing an individual so that you wouldn't have to continue to click on "more fields" if you were doing a lot of updating in the more fields area?

I like it.  I think it is going to be a valuable asset to F1.  I am with everyone else on being able to see "like" or "duplicate" records so that we can verify that it is not a duplicate before that last SAVE.  Thank you for all you do to make ministry easier.  :) Is there any email verification system on the horizon?

I have a HUGE/BIG/LARGE/MAJOR PROBLEM with this new address verification program.  Just like the previous verifcation program you had, when I enter an address for an attendee/member who lives in one of the many smaller cities/towns in the Dallas metroplex, the program "defaults" to the postal service major town with that zip code.  After entering a new test addresss I went back and tried "editing" it to enter the proper town name but the program would not let me correct it - it defaulted back to "Dallas".  This may be fine for mail delivery, but not with large churches in metropolitan areas where our members live in many of the suburb cities. Our members also do not want their addresses to reflect they live in Dallas, McKinney, or Denton when they actually live in Farmers Branch, Fairview or Corinth. If all "verification" programs default to the postal service designations, PLEASE MAKE IT POSSIBLE FOR US TO "EDIT" THE ADDRESS AND ENTER THE ACTUAL CITY/TOWN...EVEN THOUGH THIS IS A PAIN AND ADDS TIME TO OUR ENTRY PROCESS. WE MUST KNOW THE ACTUAL CITIES/TOWNS OUR MEMBERS/ATTENDEES LIVE IN.  

Just wondering...how can I enter a PMB address?  The new-and-improved address verification prevents me from entering the box number, although I can enter the street address (for instance, the mailing address is: 2220 Main Street, Ste 502, PMB 424, Any City, ST 12345-7890...the PMB 424 portion is dropped in the address verification).  Due to our location being near Mexico, many of our attendees use PMB addresses for their US mail.

Otherwise, I'm lovin' the "new" feature!

I love the fact that it is much easier to enter data and LOVE the warnings that the address is not correct.  I did run into problems in the staging environment with editing an address. example:  it basically would only allow me to save the address if I put in a fake zip code.  The program did, however, correct the wrong zip that I put in when saving it.  Just took me a few minutes to think to try that.

The only other suggestion I have (and it's an issue I have with the current way of adding new members to the household as well):  when you click "add a new individual", it would be extremely helpful if you didn't have to scroll down to find the first field for the new record to fill in.  I scrolled right past it the first time.  It'd be nice if it took you right too the new record instead of the one you just put in.  I noticed this improvement does seem to be a part of the "save and add another" feature when you "add new" to a current household within this staging environment.

Thanks so much!  I am really looking forward to this release--the data entry alone with be a HUGE improvement for us.

I tried this out and it is very easy to put information in.  I like how the household phone number is at the top of the page.  I tried to add my address and there is a message coming up saying there is no match with the USPS.  What happens in this case?  I have lived here for 18 years so I know this address exists.

I do like how all we have to do is put in the zip and it does the city and state.

I like this so much better! I am very visually oriented and this set-up for me is less confusing. Also I love the added feature of the address clean up. Data entry will be sped up and more accurate, always much appreciated. Thank you also for the video. That is my prefered way of learning. Thanks again, Simone

Ditto on scrisswell's comment re:  use of RR and Box.  The system drops the RR and Box # but provides the correct zip plus four.  This is one of the same problems we reported about 18 months ago.  Please restore address verification - soon!

As pointed out in my previous comment, I was very concerned about being able to add addresses with the correct city/town.  On Saturday I had tried adding new addresses to my household and two other households in the database and, as I previously mentioned, it defaulted to the major city with that zip code and I could not edit it..it defaulted back to the "verified" address city. However, tonight I sat and read through all the comments and in one you mentioned a pop up box that gives an option to choose the city.  That pop up box did not appear when I was working with it yesterday.  After seeing your comments I went back into the staging environment and tried entering the same three "new addresses" and this time the "box" appeared.  This certainly seems to solve my concerns, but I wonder why it did not work yesterday??

Seems to work a treat for US addresses.  But yes, how about UK addresses? It would be amazing to have this feature - standardised address format - autocorrection of wrong or missing captials letters and typos etc.

PLEASE DO NOT RELEASE THIS UNTIL THE ISSUES THAT WE REPORTED 18 MONTHS AGO HAVE BEEN FIXED. It still deletes the RR # Box # as well as occasionally deleting apt #s.

Is there a way you can re-activate the old system until you get a program that will work correctly?  At least we know to look for the problems - putting the RR # Box # on Line 2, etc.

I have been in and out of the staging environment for a few weeks experimenting with the new address cleansing/verification feature. I love the way it is laid out and formatted. Two issues which have already been stated above...the address date and when I enter an apartment number it disappears when I save the address. Can you resolve this issue? Thanks for your dedication to excellence!!

Didn't notice a response to Marcus Liberman's comment from London, UK. I have the same question for Canada. Will it clean up addresses for us here as well? It's a great feature and we could really use it!

The problem that we had with the original address cleanse, is that we're in Canada and if it recognized one of our addresses as remotely similar to somewhere in the US it would automatically change it to the US address and not let us change it back.  So when I played with it, it does seem like the address cleanse has been turned off for Canadian addresses (which is what we want) - is this correct?

Also, when entering new household, there is no comment line by phone # or email, which means after saving you have to go into 'edit' again to enter one.

Also, I don't like that phone #/email is now separate from address for editing.  It just makes too many steps.  I would have to edit address, household phone #, and then individual phone #s all separately. That's very time consuming.

Also, if we do not know the postal code, it would not let me save it.

It looks to me like after you have entered an address and then someone moves to another address, but then later goes back to the FIRST address, that you now have the option to go back to that one and make it the primary, where we never had that choice before. Is this correct? When is the release date? Can't come soon enough for me, as we have several unverified addresses that we don't know if they are accurate or not. Thanks for your work!

Another plug here for status date.  It is so important for us to have that and if it is not a required field some of our people forget to enter it.

I appreciate the opportunity to look this over and most of my questions were covered in other people's comments; it was great to have your answers come up so quickly.  Look forward to the release of add a new household!

I just tested the new address cleansing and am very excited to get to use it live.  Can't wait.  It worked great!

I love testing in the staging environment.  Able to test the problem we had with the previous address verification and you fixed it -First Yeah!  I like the new look, it is more intuitive on how I enter data.  Second Yeah!  I like that I don't have to go alllllll the way to the bottom of the page to save -third Yeah!  Unfortanetly I just update our data entry manual and will have to change it to the new look but will gladly do it so I don't get all that returned mail because something is wrong with the address -fourth Yeah!  Can't wait till it comes out.  Thanks for keeping the option of accepting address as is.  Will have to come up with a field to say partial address - would be nice to have that choice right away verses saving it and then going back to the edit button.  Let us know if we can cleanse the current data in a fast way.

I was just doing some testing.  When I enter an address that is supposed to have an apartment number, but I do not type in the apartment number, it gives me a message letting me know that I need to enter an apartment, flat or unit number.  This is good!!!  

Then when I enter in an apartment number - if I only enter the first portion of the number and click save, it does not give me a warning message that this is an incorrect number.  Instead, it saves the address with the apartment range that is listed on USPS.com.  So the address is now saved as:

Tulsa, OK 74136-8625

This would need to be fixed so that it will not save it with this 'range', but instead give us another message letting us know that it is still missing the correct information.

All else looks really great.  I love being able to change an address back to Primary from previous, or move it to individual from household, etc, without having to retype the address.  This is a great time saver.

Another thing I just noticed is that we do not have the option to add a primary address at the individual view, only at the household view.  We have some couples who each have a separate PO Box that they want their mail to go to.  So this would be a primary address for each of them individually.  Can we have the option to choose a primary address at the individual level, as well as household level,

Also -

We enter all our apartment, unit, etc., numbers on address line 1 with the rest of the address.  F1 is automatically either dropping it (as it did in 2 instances when I entered it on the address line 1 field), or it is dropping it to line 2 (as it did on 1 instance when I entered it on address line 1 field).

It is also removing any - (dash) that is entered:  As in Apt 31-O.  The O is not zero, it is alphabet O so the dash is added so that it does not look like 310 (three hundred and ten).  Can we keep F1 from altering the data?

In the note above - the first mention of 'dropping it' is referring to F1 DELETING or REMOVING the apartment number so that it is no longer there after clicking save.  The second mention of 'dropping it" refers to it moving it down to the address 2 field.  I should have been more clear on that.

We have a couple of concerns:

1.  When adding a new household there is no place to enter a Household Email.  It would make sense to be able to enter it after the Household Phone.

2.  It is confusing to split up entering the Household information - the email at the beginning, the address at the end.

3.  We don't use "Sub-Status" and would like to be able to skip to the Status Date more easily.  (We're all for automatically generating the Status Date.)

The new feature does not work for Addresses in China. It keeps rejecting our addresses. The format of the addresses here are different from those in USA. I do not want this feature for the Chinese addresses.

When entering an individual, it will be good to have a field for Nationality. We have a very diverse multi-national group here in BICF. We will like to have a way to track the nationality of our members.

I've scanned the posts and can see folks asking about a way to update existing addresses, but could not find an answer.  Seems most of the testing is for adding new addresses.  Will there be a way to scan and fix addresses already in the database?

Do like the new feature,it will help with mis spellings and trying to figure out what they wrote on the address card

I LOVE the new data entry page - great to use the horizontal space, better layout, hides less common fields (but still makes them accessible) etc.

One great improvement: if F1 would find a missing zip code for me. So many times people write their addresses and don't put the zip - so we look up the address in Google maps to find it (annoying extra step). We're in New York City and there are about a hundred zip codes in Manhattan alone.

(And just in case this tool was meant to auto complete the zip, it's not doing it for New York.)

I tested the address cleansing with the staging site and had a few problems.  I put an address to an apartment complex here in Miami without an apartment number and the system requested that I put an apartment number in.  I did and hit save and when the screen refreshed to individual view, the address was there with no apartment number.  I tried to manually add the apartment number and in either address line 2 or at the end of address line one it would "save" but the apartment number would not show up.  Also, I tried adding an address without a zip code (which happens often) and the system could not pull up options for the zip code (this is something that Shelby could do for us that some of our users miss).  

I have a few other conserns with entering a new household/individual.  Since you are changing the way that is set up I am not sure if you can address these concerns or not...

1. When entering a phone number 3051234567 no formatting corrects this to be 305-123-4567 or (305)123-4567, is it possible that you could add formatting to that field?  

2. Is there anyway to have the Prefix field be required and a drop down?  We really need this field to be more uniform for mail merge.

3. Auto capitalize...when someone types in a first name, last name, goes by, employer...and they don't capitalize the first letter the system saves the lower case letter.  Can you please add an auto capitalization for the first letter of any field where someone adds text?

Regarding the address cleansing, we are having issues with the system changing the address when the address we entered is actually correct.  This is posing issued with mail returns.  The address is Eastend St. NW, but the system keeps changing it to E. End st. NW.  I am very concerned with this.  We also are having trouble with some mail boxes and the hyphened numbers.  The system does not like it, but that is the address for our attendee.  

I think the new "Add Household" will work for more efficiently for me.  I like the new layout.

I like the changes.  Is it possible to automatically populate the last name of the spouse?  So that you don't have to re-enter it.

There were a few things that were problematic for us w/ the first time we had the address verification and I'm concerned that this is still going to be an issue. Sometimes we would enter a correct address and it would change it to an incorrect one.

Another is entering apartment #'s. We would enter them on line 1, but then they would default to line 2. This hurts us when we need mailing labels b/c when moved to the 2nd line they don't fit on our labels.

I like the fact that we can choose to keep the address we've entered when first putting in a household, but in the staging environment, it seems like when we are adding/editing an existing household it will automatically enter the verified address. I much prefer to keep our own.

We also had trouble w/ the city being changed to the large area the zip code covered instead of the individual names that the city includes. Hopefully this will not be a problem again.

I agree with Amanda above.  We have a huge problem with the fact that when we enter in an address with an apartment number, the apartment defaults down to Line 2 when we save it.  It did this before you removed the Address Verification the first time, and we were so glad to not have this problem the last few months.  It severely affects all our mailings, since we have to have the address all on one line, or the PO will send it back to us. No matter what we do, we can't make the apartment stay on Line 1.  

Otherwise, I like the new layout and navigation of the new version.  Please fix this problem with the apartment numbers though.

Back on July 22 Mark Lindsley replied to one of my comments/concerns about the new update (in the staging environment) not letting us put apartment numbers on line 1 of the address. He said the apartment numbers would default to line 2 but that we would have the option to enter them on line 1...but the address would not be "verified".  I was happy to hear that then.  However, after this first weekend of using the updated household view for entering first time guests, I still cannot make it take an apartment number on Line 1.  I am entering the apartment number on line 1 as I enter the address.  When I hit save the address shows the apartment number on line 2.  When I go back to "edit" the address and enter the apartment number again on line 1, it will still save it to line 2. Is there something else I need to do to make it take the number on line 1?? I know this is a big problem for many others too. Just wanted to ask that this be corrected as soon as possible.
