    Contribution Process

I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share their church's contribution process. We are a church of 500-600 which relies heavily on volunteers, the only financial person we have on staff is a bookkeeper.

    Re: Contribution Process

Hello - We are a larger church of about 5,500 members but I would be glad to share our process with you.

    1.  We have 9 people who open all the envelopes, remove the checks & count the cash.  We count the entire offering from start to finish in 45 minutes.

    2.  We make batches of 75 checks in each batch.  We endorse each check & run 2 tapes on each batch.

    3.  We also make batches of 50-75 cash envelopes to enter. We keep only envelopes that had cash in them to use later for scanning.  We shred all other envelopes that had checks in them.

    4.  Then, 3 people scan in every check and cash envelope.  This is done within 1 hr - 1 1/2 hrs.

    5.  After balancing one person makes a journal entry into our financial system and we are done for the day.  The entire process from start to finish usually takes 2 - 2 1/2 hours.

If you need to know anything else, please let me know.  This is just a very short summary for you.
