Ian,
I can see where you are going with this question. As a delivery manager I run into issues such as this quite often. 99% of your church would like to see their household giving together but 1% has an issue with how giving is reported or how it is displayed. I might sound like I am exaggerating a bit but that is probably close to the real numbers. In a large church of 5,000 that 1% is suddenly a large number. Unfortunately you have a complete understanding of how WebLink works and there is no secret way of correcting this issue in the short term other than separating the household or not merging the husbands online account together with the household when combining the records. Let me just say that at Fellowship Technologies we are constantly looking at new ways to improve Fellowship One. I have seen this suggestion before and I know that eventually it will become a part of the product. Please submit an enhancement request through the support link in Fellowship One so that it is properly handled and sent to the product manager.
I think a spouse that doesn't attend the church wouldn't setup an account and give online. Also even if they didn't you will still be mailing them a statement at the end of the year. I think a more plausible issue comes when you have two people who are room mates living at the same house where you have them in the same household to be able to track that they are sharing an apartment. They would be able to see each others giving records. To fix that issue you would need to "move" one of them out of the household in Fellowship One.
Thanks for the question,
