I would like some information or a testimony from someone about Olan Mills and F1's partnership with them. We would love to get some updated pictures taken and get them into F1. I have met already with someone from Olan Mills and they were not that helpful in explaining what the partnership with Fellowship One includes. Any info or customer testimonies would be great!

Facebook & IPhone Apps

I could use some input regarding Facebook and IPhone. Is anyone currently using either one with the API integration? If so, can you help me to get started? I am not a developer and the language is way above my head but I can follow instructions and copy and paste. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. It looks like the IPhone app is still coming and may not be active yet even though some people used it at the conference. Is the Facebook app ready?

Using Data Exchange to Import Giftedness

Has anyone used the Data Exchange to import Member giftedness data to Fellowship One? We have this data set up in a spreadsheet (about 500 individuals) and have also strutured Fellowships One the way we want capture the giftedness. We have very little experience in working with something like this and are not even sure if it is even possible.

Using Fellowship One with EE

I am new to the FSO and frankly APIs in general. For the most part I have coded in the basic web standards, so I apologize for my lack of understanding.

The church web site is under a content management system called Expression Engine (EE). I would consider myself pretty knowledgeable using EE, as I have several dozen sites overall developed under that platform. I am not sure if I want or need to use the native EE user management or not. I am currently using that to handle content management accounts and restricted areas on our site. I know that EE has built-in codes like {if logged} and so forth that would be nice to use for a previous question.

I want to build a custom log on with custom forms for FSO for a church web site. Basically the end goal is for the end-user to be able to login, contribute (online giving), manage his/her account then log off all within the look and feel of the church site. The current method I have in place is using the weblink javascript button routine but that simply opens up the FSO forms.

I understand API is the way this would be handled and something to do with XML code to grab the iCode; however that is where my experience comes to a complete stop. I have use XML in a very very limited fashion and simply do not understand the process of getting that iCode tag I need or the user data.

Searching the site, I noticed a EE module called listee but from what I have concluded is that is only use to build an EE template for which list all of the users under the FSO church account. I do not believe that is the goal.

Is there anyone here that has built this into EE web site that can help a newbie XML developer get the final results?

RESTful API - Just People?

I was just wondering if eventually the API will include some Activities functions - most specifically doing Registrations. We'd love to create an easier interface for our Information Center to do live registrations, right now it takes them so many steps to get people registered.

I also see the benefit of doing a kiosk style registration app like check in for self service event registration.

Automatically Populate Donation Field in Online Giving-anyone know if this is possible?

We have a project about to begin where people are being asked to contribute a set amount ($35) to a child in a foreign country on an ongoing basis. We want to allow people to use the online giving feature for this, but want to be able to automatically populate the donation amount field.

Does anyone know if this is a possibility?

Outlook Contacts Interface?

We are curious how anyone else is interfacing Outlook with F1 membership info in terms of making the contact information available through Outlook?

We have MS Exchange and our plan (in development now) is to build an interface to pull membership data into Exchange Global Address book, but we are also entertaining moving to GMAIL instead of Exchange which would be a totally different platform, etc...

Ideally we would like if there was an option to somehow directly sync??

DataExchange soap:Server Errors

I am having some issues with DataExchange and I'm trying to figure out where they are coming from. We've been using DataExchange to integrate with our website for a while now.

We have it setup to where when a user creates an account on our website it links it to their individual F1 record and sets up the weblink username and so forth.

The system was up and running with no issues. Recently I've started receiving an error message when trying to create a new account with the same code that was previously working.

"soap:ServerServer was unable to process request. ---> Object reference not set to an instance of an object."

I was wondering if anyone has ever seen this error from DataExchange and what it means. I've googled it and haven't found anything very useful.

Another note is that if I run the xml that is generated by our website code through the Portal > Data Exchange > People Import tool it will work just fine.

Any help is appreciated!

Clarification on RESTful API

OK - there has been some confusion within our church on exactly what this API will and will not do - the non-technical staff and leaders think that this will be the end of needing ANY custom code to interface with F1 data. As an example an option was brought up to move from an in-house MS Exchange server solution to a hosted Google Mail option (cheaper and perception of easier maintenance). However one of the really highly visible projects on the plate right now is to make all F1 people accessible in Outlook in the global address book WITHOUT ANY INTERFACE FROM USERS/STAFF (i.e., no running of a report and dumping it down to something to import).

Someone called F1 tech support and what was conveyed from the conversation is that if we move to Google Apps/Mail then the API can simply sync up F1 people with the Google Contact list AUTOMATICALLY with NO USER INTERVENTION or THIRD PARTY INTERFACE/ENGINE.

I've contested that there will have to be something in between that is driving this - that Google will not make the calls into F1 and that F1 is not pushing to Google.

I've tried to comminicate that this API is a developer interface into F1 and although it will do a lot of cool things it needs something to drive it.

I did not attend the conference so I was looking for a good layman's description of this to pass on and for clarification as to how and who will use this API.

Using DataExchange with PhoneTree

What we want to do is use PhoneTree to enable our preschool to call and email all the parents in case of a major disaster here.

A PhoneTree salesperson told us (Mariners Church) that their system could integrate with our FellowshipOne database and be updated live without us having to run reports and convert them to whatever format (see F1 answer ID 46). So I called their tech support and they didn't know how to do this. Then he said that if it could be done, we would need to use an ODBC connection to the FellowshipOne database. Then I called F1 and they didn't know either but pointed me to this forum.

So my question is, has anyone done this yet?

Fun & Creative Integration Codes?

Does anyone else have any fun codes that they have written for ways to integrate F1 with their church website? We were under the impression that this would be easier to integrate and hoping that with the new API coming out that we wouldn't have to put a lot of hours and man power into creating something from scratch... Anyone have any luck?

Types of things we are looking for:

*Online Directories (I saw the post that Andrew Long had in January 2009- very helpful but would love to see how others are getting around this idea- it gets us thinking outside of the box!)
*Discussion Boards
*Connecting Small Group Managers within different Ministries (Right now, we have links on our websites that will direct people to their Life Group and a separate link to their Serving Teams- it would be nice if there was a way that there are links in a frame and inside the frame switches to the various lists)

RESTful and Data Exchange

I am new here and I am in the beginning stages of designing a new website for our church. We want to better integrate fellowship one with our new site so I am looking into how to do that. From what I have gathered so far it seems there is currently one way to do this (Data Exchange) and a better way (RESTful) will be coming in the future. Is that correct? Is there a place I can read more about the RESTful API? I looked at the downloadable PDF from Dynamic Church '08 already.

Embedded Login: writing a cookie?

We have successfully gotten the embedded login to correctly authenticate a user with DE, however, when an already logged in user clicks on a weblink popup such as Event Registration, she is prompted to login again in the popup window. I'm guessing that we need to simulate the cookie that the Weblink login writes so that the popup weblinks see that we are already authenticated. Anyone know how to write that cookie? Or is there some other method for telling the weblink to write the cookie for us without the user having to login in twice?

Data Exchange Integration with PHP

Our webpage backend is currently on PHP. We are looking to change over to an ASP backend next year, mainly for integration with FellowshipOne and EventU. But in doing so, we're going to lose a lot of applets we are currently using.

My question is, has anyone made any attempts or progress in integrating the Data Exchange module with PHP?

Creating a Class or Set of Functions

I am seriously considering creating a set of functions to interact with Data Exchange that could be posted here for folks using PHP. Unfortunately, I am a person of little time and big vision - I am wondering if anyone else would be willing to help.

Basic Functions -
- People Search which returns populated arrays
- Login Authenticator
- Login Account Creator/Modifier

This seems like it would be a good start to an extensible library for PHP, but I need some help.

Invalid XML in the GetIndividualCollection method

I called the GetIndividualCollection method and searched by last name. For most queries it seems to work fine, but it failed when I did one search. After inspecting the output, the XML you're sending back is invalid:

        <middleName>
        </middleName>
        <goesByName>

        </goesByName>
   n>
        <prefix>
        </prefix>

Notice the "n>" partial tag. Other records respond correctly. I've only seen this on one record so far - I'd be happy to help you track down the offending record.

Using WebLink log-in for a messageboard

I'm a hack when it comes to coding, so this may be a ridiculous question...

We're planning on setting up a message board using phpbb for our church. We're trying to avoid users having multiple log-in's since that would be really confusing. Is there any way to set it up so that users can use their WebLink ID to log-in to the message board? I wasn't sure if there was a way to use Data Exchange for authentication, so I thought I'd ask here before I rounded up some volunteers to look into it.

Extracting Activity data

We are wanting to export activity data so that we can use it on our web site and display an events calendar. Is anyone else doing this? We would like to avoid duplicate entry of activities both in F1 and our web site if possible. I cannot find a report that displays all activities and the associated info (date, time, location, etc...) and I was told this would have to be a custom report.

If anyone has a way they are doing this that they would like to share I would appreciate it.

Small Groups / Activities Structure

I haven't heard any new info recently on data exchange. I am wondering if there is any chance in the near future that there will be a way to traverse the activity structures. Read access via XML would be wonderful for these as it would allow us to display our own verison of the small group finder.

Also, here is a spin off question I had posed to our delivery manager. What is the chance that Fellowship One will invest some resources into re-vamping the group finder. It's a great tool but seems to be worthy of an update or some customizablitly out of the box as it requires visitors to know how to use it. There is so easily a chance that a visitor to your site will run through the drop downs and easily come up with no matching groups once or twice before getting a hit and for us, that could be enough to make someone bypass joining a group or just moving on and not getting plugged in at the church.

We have some ideas of what we'd like to accomplish as far as being able to see pictures of the group leader with a description of the group, etc.

What are the chances of opening up Data Exchange so activites/small groups would be readable or the chance of a re-vamped small group finder (2.0 ??)
