Yes, you can add them to a group - but it's not automatic. I still encourage Activity Association - particularly if you want to run rosters or use Check-in or Post Attendance. This makes the activity run much smoother. If you're not taking attendance, you can skip the association.
Run one of the registration reports (most of them are in the M6000 series, type M6 in the search field to find them ). Make sure the report you select has the temporary group icon
beside the report name.
Choose "Temporary Group" as your output type at the bottom of the report filters. When the group has generated, you can see it back in the People tab under Groups >> View all. There will be a new group type called "Temporary Group".
You can even save your temp group as a permanent group by using the "Add to Group" option in the Actions gear at the bottom of the listing.
