This is strange - When I put my "accepted" city (Tigard) into the "City" field it gets tagged onto the end of the address and the "Preferred" city (Portland) is put into the stored address.

Amen! It would be great to only have to train our group leaders once - it avoids so much confusion.

Kay,
I'm still not getting the popup. What browser are you using? I'm on IE7. -Mark

<sigh>
I just tried creating a new household with my address, and the city name was forced by address verification to be the primary city name. #FAIL
I've looked at http://zip4.usps.com/zip4/citytown_zip.jsp and with my zip code (97223) it definitely shows that "Tigard" is an acceptable city name. What happened to the fix ...

I don't think that we have actually run into this, but has anyone thought about creating a ''receipt'' fund that the original donor's gift would be recorded in? It seems like that would provide tracking, but wouldn't show up as deductable.

MLindsley,
Thanks! This has been an issue since Address Verification was originally turned on, so it is nice to have a workable resolution.

How does it handle actual vs acceptable city names for a zip code? Our example is that 97223 shows up with Portland as the primary city name in the USPS database (http://zip4.usps.com/zip4/citytown_zip.jsp), but most of the residents of that zip code are actually in Tigard. It doesn't matter for mail delivery, but it generates a strong ...

A contact item can set an attribute for you. I'd send out an email to all current members with a link to the contact.

Rumor has it that people have been unhappy with the USPS over this for roughly 45 years. I've submitted an Idea for this change to have the secondary cities be allowed
-
We have a couple of attenders that have requested that their contact information not be included in directories (one is a juvenile social worker). Is there a preferred way to mark these people for ''do not publish in directory'' that is reflected in the reports? Some kind of ''unlisted'' address type?
-
We live in an area that is a suburb (Tigard) of a major city(Portland), and due to historical reasons the USPS considers our zip codes to all be part of Portland - which is what the address verification changes them to. When we print out a directory, this ''technically correct'' information generates an ''unpleasant emotional ...

sGilliam - To me, the difference is that there is no obvious order to put the registrations in, so I would prefer having all current visible.
Curtis - I would expect that registrations for something like a recovery class would only show up to those with rights for that ministry.
-
That sounds like one of the features that was discussed in the video of the roadmap and strategy that Curtis Harris posted on the Updates tab. The idea is to be able to send an email with a custom link that will take you directly to a page to register your family.

Wow, There's a lot of good stuff in this (and now I can explain some things to people that have been asking - like "can we get a church directory on our website out of this?") By the way, the I like the updates over on http://twitter.com/f1productmgmt - they give a bit of insight into what goes on in the product development.
-
Very nice! I'm looking forward to trying it out. (which begs the question: "Is there an opportunity for those of us who weren't able to attend DC08 to get hooked up with secrets & credentials to try this ourselves?")
Thanks for the work that's going on.

Yes, I had a support ticket, but it has been closed with a work-around.
You have to add the information in the ''Old View'' to get it to stick.
-
I think this has to do with addresses that are not registered with USPS as having sub-addresses (apt., box, unit, etc). You can't even have the box number on the address 2 line.
-
You mean people get paid to do this??

I've been asked by one of our ''Senior Saints'' if we could track emergency contact information for our elderly attendees/members. It seems that we have had situations where someone was moved to another care facility, but nobody at church knew where they went. So..., I'm asking. Does anyone else keep track of this kind of info? ...
