Once you rally your team around your common goal do you allow them the freedom to be themselves and be creative or do you try to control their every move? I guess the bigger question is why do you try to control their every move? Is it because you are afraid of failure or is it because you are afraid to take the heat for your team’s mistake and is it easier to blame them then to be accountable for them?
There was once a day when I tried to manipulate teams to do everything my way, because I knew it was the right way! J Well, I have grown up since my early leadership days and I have learned that I get my way more often now that I have more than one way. I have had to learn from many mistakes along the way and suffer in the consequences of some bad decisions but I survived. Not only did I survive but I grew in the process and learned that the beauty of a team is…you never stop learning from others.
Commitment develops an ability to learn from mistakes
Wisdom gained from past mistakes ought to guide our future decisions. God is patient and He gives us many opportunities to correct our mistakes, He encourages us, offers constructive criticism from others and waits for us to make the right choices. But He will also let us suffer the consequences of poor decisions. Like Cain in Genesis 4:6-7 He gave Cain a chance to correct his rejected sacrifice, but Cain refused, Cain suffered more and more sin because of his inability to accept God’s criticism. Will you choose God’s way or Cain’s?
