Curtis,

I am a new subscriber to F1.  The one thing I find disappointing is the user friendliness.  Most of the site is not instinctual.  The fact I have to take hours and hours of classes just to do the basics means that it is not a user friendly environmnet.  I would rate myself a fairly computer savy person, but wow this is not easy to learn.  If I want many of my people (small group leaders especially) to be able to use this site I am going to spend massive amounts of time getting them up to speed.  If this site is going to save me time it has to be instinctual.

Suggestions:

1. Many of the terms you use have to be defined on the education videos.  If you have to define the term then it isn't clear.

2. The Add Household 2.0 beta is much better than the Add Household. Why can't a query be quick and easy as well?

You do have a powerful data system here, but it loses its power when I can't find my way through it to get what I need.  I have to admit I am frustrated with the system.  One of the key selling points of the system was that it was going to save me time.  Boy, right now I am not sure that is true.  I am a little tempted to just go back to Servant Keeper and be done with it.  It isn't as powerful or as handy-- especially for the volunteers, but at least I can sit with them for about 15 min. and have them working on their own soon after.

If you have questions about my comments please feel free to call me.

Paul,

I absolutely understand where you are coming from; we have had several similar complaints relating to the old areas of our system. The areas you pointed out (query, individual detail, and small groups) are some of our oldest. The good news is (that you pointed out) the --new-- is much better and much more intuitive; this is the message of this video blog (don't ask me to simply add another check-mark on the screen).  The best news is that the three areas you pointed out are all actively being re-written right now to achieve an improved ease of use along with enhanced capability/flexibility.

You may also be encouraged that we now have a full time UI person (Matt Vasquez) dedicated to making anything --new-- much easier and more intuitive.  Matt is constantly finding educational opportunities to stay up on this space and frequently challenges all of us to new ways of approaching solutions; something we all hear him say quite a bit is "get the software out of the way, let the user do their job without interference".

In the meantime, I would encourage you to stick with it... once you get some of the basics down your comprehension of the entire app will come much easier.  If you do need any additional support feel free to email me at charris@fellowshiptech.com.

Thanks.

-Curtis Harris.
