Report Feedback (part II)

We had tons of great feedback from the last report user interface review, 33 comments to be exact… thanks!  This video takes what we have heard from you and highlights areas that we are going to change and areas we are still trying to figure out.  Please take some time to review the video and let me know if we are on the right track.

In addition, several comments suggested that I didn’t do a good job of explaining that this project (changing the user interface) is being done largely to support the bigger project REPORT BUILDER!  If you have not reviewed those posts, please do; I think you will love where we are going.

New post here -> New Report UI (part 2)

Report UI (part 1) post here -> Need Feedback - New Report UI
Report Builder post here -> Report Builder
and another one here -> Will Report Builder replace Query Builder?

All the improvements really look good.  We much prefer that the tag cloud work exactly the same for FT Reports, My Reports, and Shared Reports.  That means a user does not have to be trained in two methods or remember which method applies.  The description for the report is just fine.  It is much easier to have that than to be looking for a popup or click more.  The color on pending, complete, and done is a good idea.

An additional reason for having the tag cloud function the same is that as we develop my reports and shred reports there will be many cases where multiple tags are helpful.  They can reduce duplication of reports, improve time taken to locate, and provide some structure.

Functional consistency is a big part of creating an intuitive tool.  I support consistency between F1 reports and My Reports. You can’t assume users will only have 10 to 20 reports saved as my reports.

The “View in portal” feature is huge!  - Way to go Dallas!

Colored buttons – Yeah, that’s fine. Just stay within design rules – Color pallets and rounded corners

I do like the Run Buttons on the side.

Three lines of report detail with a read more link is the right way to go.

Don’t need the save link in the Queue – I need to see the filters before I save.
