one barcode per family or one per child

I have read that for check-in beta that if you have a barcode for a child then you can scan the barcode and it will fully check them in and print their name tag, if they already have a participation assignment.  Is this true?

We've distributed our barcodes out to families and have put everyone in the entire family on one barcode because families did not want to keep up with each child's key tag.  Most of our families have anywhere from 3 to 6 children and keeping up with that many key tags can be quite a hassle!  However, it would also be awesome if the families can just scan their barcode and nametags/asset tags/parent receipt tags could print automatically (if they already have a participant assignment).

How do other churches handle key tags?

We have always used the barcode checkin system for our children's and youth ministry. Right now the way we have it setup is that each child/youth has their own card. You scan that card and it automatically checks the child/youth in and prints their nametag.

We are looking at restructuring our process so that we too print keytags for the parents for all kids up to age 11. Once they reach age 12 (youth age) we will issue the youth their own keytag. What I am thinking we will do is set our kiosk up to "checkin household" when a parent scans their card instead of automatically checking someone in a screen will come up with all the family members listed. The parent would then go through select each child and what class they are checking into.

We have not started this process yet but I believe this would be the difference you would see between having your stations set to rapid barcode which you would use if each person has their own card vs household so you can check everyone in at once.

I have my scanner but have not started the automated check-in process.  I plan to do it one per family under the 6th grade.  Older kids will have their own cool tags from the youth ministry.  But I need to know where you got you kiosk set up.  I've looked on the internet and it can be cheap or very expensive.  I need imput!!

Our kiosks are at our registration center, in which we have a long desk that hosts 3 computers.  We don't actually have a kiosk station for people to check their selves in.  They have to have assisted check-in.  However, we do have one station that is solely committed to 1st time visitors, since we like to gain more information on the children than just their phone number and that way the other lines aren't backed up by this process.  It usually takes someone 3-4 times longer to check-in if it is their first Sunday.  Also, at the other two computers, we have bar code scanners where the attendees can scan their bar code and then the person who is working that station can quickly check them in.  It doesn't save a whole bunch of time, but it is nice to have their names automatically pop up... we have such an influx of visitors and new guests all the time that it is hard to keep up with what everyone's name is.  It is nice to see what their bar code pulls up and then to call them by name.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help!

You can use either method. When you launch the check in app there is an option to return the entire family or just the individual
