    Requirements Portion of Volunteer Pipeline

We've recently begun to implement the volunteer pipeline and are a little confused, or just need some explanation, as to why the requirements section is passed back to the volunteer coordinator. At least in our church, though I don't know about others, requirements are taken care of and tracked by the individual ministries. It seems like an extra step to communicate that with the volunteer coordinator, something we're trying to avoid as we're "convincing" people this is a good thing to use. To get around this, the only thing we've thought up is to give someone in that specific ministry volunteer management security rights, though a little risky since then they'd have access to all of  the volunteer submissions. We were just wondering the thought process behind this step being the way it is and wondering if there's a better suggestion for us to work with it. Thanks.

Re: Requirements Portion of Volunteer Pipeline

    Tara,

I see what you are saying and I would agree with you.  Sometimes the rigid process that we established for the Volunteer Pipeline does not exactly fit the way each church processes volunteers.  What we tried to do was come up with a best practice process so that churches that did not have a process could work with what we have seen working at churches.

The reason we put the requirements under the volunteer coordinator's responsibility was mainly because of the Background Check issues.  They are very confidential and also a cost issue for churches.  We wanted the ministries to establish that this was a viable candidate then push them back to the Volunteer Coordinator to process the background checks as well as any other requirements such as Volunteer Applications or Membership Classes.  This can be done in a centralized way to reduce cost and get groups of people together for one class vs multiple classes doing the same thing across multiple ministries.

Without know what requirements you are using in particular at your church in your ministry I can't make a recommendation as to what you are currently doing.  But I would recommend that only one person have the capabilities to process background checks.

    Thanks,
