    Remote Deposit Capture with ProfitStars

During the recent conference we had a chance to talk to ProfitStars. In talking with them, we understood that once there solution was completely in place, we would only need to be scanning checks once and the result would be a deposit in the bank and an contribution record in Fellowship One.

In discusses with ProfitStars we got the impression we were still going to be scanning into the Contributions application and then there would be transactions into ProfitStars. After reading Curt's article titled Remote Deposit Capture is coming to Fellowship One (see https://experience.fellowshipone.com/blogs/dailyconcerns/archive/2008/05/11/remote-deposit-capture.aspx), it seems like we will be scanning into ProfitStars and then their will be a transaction from them into Fellowship One.

Which way is it going to be? Will all the "good" features we have gotten used to in Contributions scanning as it relates to matching a check with an individual be there in some sort of way? If we will be using ProfitStar interface, will we no longer be needing the F1 Contribution software? What is the current plan?

I understand this is still in development and is due out sometime in this next quarter. As a result, you do not have, or might not be able to share, all the answers on this. But do know that you can let us know the best way we can follow the progress on this effort. Can we sign up for some email notification or track a blog or what?

Re: Remote Deposit Capture with ProfitStars

My blog describes as accurately as I can share what our plans are at the moment. If you began using Profit Stars alongside of F1 today then the process of scanning into Profit Stars will not change once the integration is complete. You won't be doing any matching, splits, or assigning Activities, Times, Pledge Drives, etc. within F1. However, we don't know yet if we'll reuse the existing contribution application to consume the data feed from Profit Stars or we'll write a new one. Regardless, the features that exist within the Contribtuions app today will still be available.

We'll share more information through the Experience site as the solution gains clarity.

I'm also interested in tracking this. Let me know if anything has come about!

    Curtis,

I have been told that your RDC solution will not accomodate split contributions.  Is this true?  I ask because if the PS integration cannot deal with split contributions, we are unlikely to use it, as a signficant portion of our contributions are splits.  Can you confirm or correct my understanding of this?

     Thanks!

Re: Remote Deposit Capture with ProfitStars

I attended a web presentation by Profit Stars sponsored by ACS and Shelby.  Profit Stars described how they could read offering envelopes and then verify split contribution total matched the offering envelope.  They would store the offering evelope image along with the check image and pass all of hte images on to the church's software platfoprm.  If Profit Stars already has developed this software why can't F1 also utilize this functionality.  If splits are not part of the check 21 implementation, then our church will have no interest in implementing this functionality.
