We have some old scanners that won't scan a barcode at all.  I'd really like to look at setting up self-checkin for our youth ministry using barcodes.

Just wondered what everyone is using that actually works.

We use the Metrologic MS7120 Orbit Omni Directional. Works great.

We have the Metrologic Orbit model MS7120.  I have had very few problems with them.  One unit died, but they have a good warranty from the manufacturer.  I think it is for 3 years.  Ours was fixed and I paid shipping.  I have had a USB cable get slammed in something & bent.  The replacement cable was $70.  I think they had a their hand in the cookie jar a bit there.

$70 for a replacement USB cable? I know it has a special RJ-45 end, but it should not have cost you that much. The USB cable that is used with our MS7120 is part number 54-54235B-N-3. A search for that part on the Internet shows lots of POS vendors selling it for $35. When/If you have to purchase another replacement cable, you might be able to find a better deal than $70.
