    Missional living?

Here's a question that's been on my heart a lot lately:  How are we as the local church body actively meeting the needs of those around us?  How do we encourage our members to live out their lives truly as salt and light, not being a part of the world around us or conforming to it.  How do we reach out and actively show God's love in a way that doesn't immediately translate to "come to church"?

This has been on my mind quite a bit lately.  The idea of "Servant Evangelism" comes to mind, and I know one of the things that people have been talking about lately here and elsewhere has been living out our Christian walk before men in a way that really shows how Christians are supposed to act.

The following link has some of the thoughts that have been going through my head, but I don't necessarily agree with all of them.  I think that a traditional church building has its place, but I also think that it's about more than the couple of times a week that we show up there.

So with all of that, is anyone out there living in a "missional" way?  Anyone living out the role of a missionary to their community?  If so, please share.  I'd love to hear how you're doing and what God is doing through you.

    In Him,

    Re: Missional living?

Sorry for taking so long to reply to your Post Pete. I have a huge burden for missions, and as such Missional Living is a big part of my families' focus. There was a very cool sermon done by one of the pastors here in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex. Here is the Link to his sermon: http://www.thevillagechurch.net/resources/sermons.html Missional Living is one of the 5 focuses of the Village Church. They demonstrate it by being debt free, and they challenge their congregation to get out of debt. They teach parishoners not use any monetary bonuses in life to enhance their lifestyles, but to use those gifts to increase the mission of the Church. I've been to a couple of services there - it has been compelling to say the least. Thank you for the topic Pete! I hope to hear more answers from other churches on how they emphasize the "missional" life in the US. Marie Armitage
