    Group Email Unsubcribe

Okay when we send a group email at the bottom of the email the recipient sees:
This email was sent to someemailaddress@isp.net. You can instantly unsubscribe from these emails: unsubscribe

Since the existing verbage is not clear, my question is this: Does the unsubscribe only effect one church code in Fellowship One?

It is my understanding that when someone unsubscribes an email address, that email address is flagged in the individual churches site and as a result, we can not send emails to that email address. But what I want to know if this - if a person has participated in multiple churches that use F1 and they decide to unsubscribe to all emails from one church, is emails from the other church also impacted in anyway????

(I have an opinion on how unsubscribe should work, but I want to know how it really works in a situation like I have described.)

NOTE: There are a number of idea posts on how to improve the unsubcribe process for group emails, including one I just made to change the verbage - see:

    John,

When someone unsubscribes by using the Unsubscribe feature in the Group Email app, it only applies to the church code that they received the email from.  This is done by setting that indivdiual's email to Unlisted.  This process does not touch other church databases.

Thanks Mark. I tested and observed how the unsubscribe function worked in our database. I suspected, but wanted to confirm, that this action only occured in our database. Thanks for confirming. Always better to ask than assume.

    Re: Group Email Unsubcribe

I have a followup question:  When someone unsubscribes from one distribution list, does that unsubscribe them from all of them?  It sounds like it does from your answer, but I just wanted to confirm.  We were considering creating multiple groups for church-wide email with different areas of interest (say, service opportunities or elderly ministry or food needs, etc.), and hoping that if someone unsubscribed from one, they would still receive others (presumably, the ones they want).   Would this work or not?

    Re: Group Email Unsubcribe

The unsubscribe is very simplistic.  It makes the email address unlisted.  That means that all future emails will not go to this email address unless you make it listed again.  We send an email to every person that unsubscribes asking if they only wanted to unsubscribe from that ministry's email or from all emails.  Then we use an attribute to tag them for "No ... emails".  Our lists are generated by queries or reports where the attribute can be screened.  We use  report P7603E to get the unsubscribe list and send the email by Word Mail Merge.

    Dan,

Sending a confirmation email is a good idea. I will pass that on to our users. It is a good simple solution, and a lot better than waiting until the person that unsubscribes complains that they stopped getting emails. Hopefully the unsubscribe verbage and features will  be enhanced in the near future.

    Re: Group Email Unsubcribe

So I take it you don't use F1 for mass emails.  You do exporting and then emailing through Word.

Does a record go into F1 saying that you sent the email?  How do you get the notice that they unsubscribed?  When I unsubscribe, does it automatically do that in F1 without any notice sent to anyone on staff?
