Clete,
I think that it's pretty safe to say that any giftedness program that isn't used well will not help too much. Speaking for myself, I've taken several different assessments and they are helpful for me to know what I should start pursuing, but the churches doing the assessments didn't seem to reference them too much once they were done the first time.
I'd be very interested to know how people are using their Giftedness assessments whether the actual assessments are in F1 or not. I can see how it integrates into the system and can be used to guide someone towards various opportunities, but I think that unless you're willing to work with the data, follow up with the volunteers, perhaps even take a different assessment - it's going to involve busywork. For my part, I think getting someone involved in trying out various opportunities that are of interest to them and keeping them interested in trying out new positions until one really clicks is more important than giftedness assessments.
That being said, one thing I really liked about SHAPE was that it seemed to take into account more of a big picture of the person than some other tests that focused purely on Spiritual Gifts. Even if I have a gift of Teaching, it doesn't help much if I have little experience that would allow me to communicate or if I have very little knowledge/truth to actually impart. :)
Anyway, my personal experience has been that getting an assessment and then moving quickly to have a person try out various positions has been the most helpful. That was our biggest use and we got people to see that they really were suited to various positions available and most stepped up. Does anyone have experience with short-term jobs? Positions that may be available just for people to get involved and test the waters?
