Child Check-In Without Access to a Computer

Hi, I wonder if anyone can advise on the following?  We are setting up check-in procedures for our children's ministries but are encountering some problems in devising a system.  We do not have access to a computer at the venue which we use for our services and so we need to implement a manual system for checking in the children.  We are thinking about using labels with the children's names on, which we could prepare in advance.

Is anyone in a similar situation?  We would really appreciate any advice that anyone could give with regard to setting up a workable system.

    Many thanks!  Sue

Well, pre-printing labels is one option I think I've seen discussed before.  However, I am curious about the venue you're using - is it that you don't have access to a network or no computer or both?

I know that it is not supported, but using a cellular card, laptop, etc may be an option to look into.  If you have reliable cell service and a 3G card, this could work well enough to do check in while connected.

If not, then you may want to prepare labels and print a roster prior to the event.  If you're using checkin to do this, the big disadvantage would be undoing the check-in process for children who did not attend.  If you're using something else for labels, then you could use your rosters to do post-attendance.

You may want to browse through the past posts.  I remember this topic, but do not know if it was directly from another customer or by reading about it here.

Many thanks, Peter - your comments are very helpful. We tried out a check-in system last Sunday with pre-printed F.1 labels and rosters.  It worked well!

We are using a local college as the venue for our services and no internet access is available, so I think the pre-printed labels and roster route will be best for us.

    Sue,

I am glad the pre printed worked for you. We also use labels that our parents fill out and stick on their children at check in.  The second half of the sticker goes with the parent.  It is a security measure for us.

We have printed rolls they are manually checked in on.  We are currently in a elementary with no service available but we have thought about using the broadband cards.
