Use Google Apps for email links within FellowshipOne (vs having to use Outlook to write emails)

The following is about how churches that use Google Apps, can email directly out of FellowshipOne by clicking on emails links, without having to copy the email link first and paste it into the "To:" box.

I don't know how many churches use google apps, but it's quite nice.  We use Google Apps Education edition, which is free for non-profits and includes all the goodies that Google normally only provides for schools, like unlimited 7 gig inboxes with no advertisements and other great features.

I thought I'd post this since it makes emailing people a lot easier within Fellowship One.  I had to go around and add this feature to our user's browsers, about 2/3's of our staff love just using web base email, while a third still choose to use Outlook and will not have this problem.

I'm sorry if the directions are a little complicated, I copied some of it off the web and also added to it.

Also, this only works in Firefox, with Google Toolbar installed.

First make sure your google toolbar is installed and is used for mailto items.  To check this, on the tool bar click over on the far right on: "Settings, then click on "Options", then click on the "More" Tab, then below click on "Send with Gmail".

After the Google Toolbar is configured to use "Mailto" links, follow the next options:

    1. Enter "about:config" into Firefox's address bar (without quotes).  Agree that you won't mess things up by click on "I'll be Careful, I promise!"

    2. Under Filter start typing "google.toolbar.mailto.providers.Gmail" and double-click this preference.

    3. Enter the following text into the text field:

    firetool-mail:https://mail.google.com/hosted/mychurch.org/?ui=1&view=cm&fs=1@to=to&subject=su&body=body&cc=cc&bcc=bcc&name=gmail

(make sure there is no spaces in the syntax, or it will not work)

    4. Replace "mychurch.org" with your Apps domain name. Then close out.

In my tests, it works flawlessly with XP and Vista and works with all email links

    Hope this is helpful,

    Todd
