    School Grade Levels

I'm having a hard time without the option of grade levels as a choice in creating reports for our youth ministry. How do other people do this?

    Re: School Grade Levels

If both the MS and HS have an event together then I use the activity groups to split the HS, MS and Leaders.  Then within each activity group I use the Room names for each grade level.  MS rooms are 6th Grade, 7th Grade, 8th Grade and the same for HS.  Then when you pull reports by rooms they are always totaled by grade.

Would attributes work for you? Perhaps Graduation Year as an Attribute Group and the Years of Graduation (e.g. 2008 - 12th Grade, 2009 - 11th Grade, etc) as the attributes?  I guess it depends on whether or not the report itself supports Attributes as a filter.

    Re: School Grade Levels

our church is brand new to F1 and we are still in process of setting everything up, but our Student Ministries dept is choosing to use attributes to label grades:

     Attribute group = "grade"
Attribute names with in that group = class of 2008, class of 2009, class of 2010, etc.

This way, they will never have to "promote" these students, and can filter reports using attributes.  As I said, we've only just begun to set this up, so we dont know yet if this will be the best way to go in the long run, but we're hoping!

I found there are not as many reports to choose from using attributes.  Report M1352 will even allow a date range so I can pull the average attendance by Rooms (which is each grade level).

We are new to F1 this year, but we chose to use Attributes and then the same day we did promotion, we edited the attributes to reflect the new grade- starting with 12th  grade and working down. So far it  is working great and we can do a query on all the kids in a grade, whether they have a participant assignment or not.

    Susan,

You might want to edit the names of the attributes and use graduation year if you are not already doing so.  It will save you a lot of time over the long haul.
