Volunteer Pipeline for VERY basic volunteering

I've looked in many places for this answer and have not yet found it...

We utilize many different types of volunteers, from greeters to trained counselors.  For the Volunteer Pipeline, it seems it is built to handle the volunteers that have a great deal of requirements before serving, such as a background check, etc.  However, if we bring in a volunteer greeter, all he/she is required to do is smile, shake hands, and say "welcome to Highlands."  There is no real interview, no real (formal) training, and thus no real need for the full-blown volunteer pipeline.  That's where I'm struggling.  What do you recommend as a setup for someone to say they are interested in volunteering for a role that doesn't have a lot of requirements so that they can be integrated as a volunteer and put on a staffing schedule?

We have set up contact items for a few volunteer positions, instead of using the full-blown volunteer pipeline (as you put it), for that same reason. :) We have the contact routed to an administrative staff person over that ministry. They call or email the potential volunteer, and give him/her a staff assignment at a service they agree on. It leaves out a few steps of the volunteer pipeline, but seems to be working better for us at the moment...

ditto for us on what Alyssa Roupp said.  It works fine for the simple stuff.

Thanks for this input.  We use contacts extensively today, but don't take and put people back into F1 to manage the actual schedule - it is all manual today. :(  That's what I'm working to overcome.  With four campuses (each unique in the day-to-day), it is making this quite a challenge!  My next task is to try and figure out how to set up the appropriate activities and jobs for each campus (we have WAY TOO MANY now) so that we can assign volunteers to the right things the first time.  Any input on this arena would be appreciated.

we use this by just not putting in the requirements, you can ommit that part.  So when you start it goes from Volunteer Interest -Greeting - to Narrow Selections - where if you are the one managing you can put in your notes, etc, then hit submit where it will then move directly to the volunteer interest section, simply push submit from this screen and it should bring you to the volunteer assignment page, click on the assignment hyperlink and give staffing assignment.  The trick is having the interest set up to link to the correct ministry area where you have the staffing assignment at.

I work at a multi-site church and this is my main job so if you have any more questions please feel free to contact me.

I must say the Volunteer Pipeline isn't the best but usable.

It's a bit of work to set up, but we integrated the S.H.A.P.E. giftedness program into the Fellowship One giftedness (Admin Tab, Giftedness Programs). Then we took every volunteer position in our church and entered it into F1 (Ministry tab, staffing, jobs). Then each job was set up accoding to the giftedness program (which you can do when you put the jo in F1). In our case, with a SHAPE assessement, each job was categorized according to what Spiritual gifts, Heart, Abilities, Personality, and Experiences would be best for that job. Our entire church did a campaign with all small groups doing SHAPE, so people ended the class with their specific SHAPE assessment. Once we enter their particular Giftedness Assessment into their profile in F1, we can now run a search for volunteer positions within the church that would overlay with their giftedness. It is awesome!! We have people who stay in ministry positions much longer because they are where theri gifts are being used and they are happiest!
