Computer Monitors - Touch Screen or not? Laptops or not?

We as a church are getting ready for the opening of our expanded facilities that have been under construction for the last 18 months.  We are more than doubling the size of our facilities at our main campus.  We currently have 6 check-in stations (4 dell desktops & 2 laptops).  We are researching check-in stations and are going to be doubling the amount of check-in stations we have.  I would like to hear feedback from churches 3000+ in size as to the kinds of check-in stations you use and whether you use touch screens or not, laptops or not.  If you do use touch screens I would like to hear what kind of touchscreens you use, whether they are troublesome or not.  I would also like to know how you keep your check-in stations mobile, i.e. what kind of workstation cart you use, if any.

Thanks so much for any input you can give me!

    Blessings,

    cshelton

We have not implemented F1 yet.  We hope to start in about a month.  I too am interested in hearing about as many experiences as I can.  I'm having a hard time grokkng the F1 gestalt.

I am playing with net top computers.  I have an ASUS Eee Top (ETP1602-BK-X0045) and a MSI Wind Top (AE1900-05SUS.)  I have a Shuttle X50 on backorder.  The Check-In application seems to run as fast on them as it does on my desktop.  Which makes sense, the application is netbound.  I haven't done much testing with them yet, but so far it looks pretty good.  I am thnking about blogging my process.

Re: Computer Monitors - Touch Screen or not? Laptops or not?

We use the ELO touch screen monitors in our self check-in stations and a mix of regular and touch in our volunteer run stations.  For the volunteer run stations, the touch screens are faster - workers love them!  I love the touch screens at the self check-ins as there is less equipment on display for anyone to mess with and it looks cleaner.  One of our members designed cabinets that are wall mounted and are just wide enough to hold the monitor and scanner with the components locked inside the cabinet beneath.  The monitor and scanner are bolted to the cabinet top so there is not a chance of any tipping.   I also like the way the computers are securely locked in the cabinets with the tech team holding the keys.  We have not had any issues with the monitors and only use desktops. After moving our location every week for 2 years after Hurricane Katrina destroyed our campus, we try not to be mobile.  When we had to every week,  we had rolling carts similar to speaker boxes on wheels.  Tough on the equipment to move it that often.  Advise one with internal padding.  Hope this helps!

We just settled on the ASUS Eee Top (ETP1602-BK-X0045).  For around $500 you get a computer, with wireless built in, and a touch screen.

The only problem so far is the aspect ration.  Check-in is stretched and pixilated, but people don't seem to mind.

I am trying to blog my experiences at http://myf1experience.blogspot.com/

I make notes as I am setting the computers up.  I haven't been transfering my notes though.  Someday...
