    Self Check In for Students

We recently started using Self Check In. We have a separate student building so kids are coming over w/out their parent (and the parent has the key tag.) Our student ministry has exploded almost overnight so we are experiencing looongg lines for assisted check in. We want to get the students using self check in. However, it doesn't seem to be realistic that students who don't drive will keep a key tag with them. I have heard a couple of people on staff talk about churches that keep key tags for the students on a Rolodex file and so it's assisted check in because the card is pulled for them swiped and the tag printed but self check because the need to look up the student is eleviated so you still get the speed of self check in.

Does anyone do that? How exactly do you do it? Does it work? Does anyone else have any other suggestions?

    Thanks!!

The new keytags that we have started using across the board have a tear off barcode with a sticky back so that they can put it on their cell phones or in their Bible so that might be an option to get the barcode printed on some type of sticker or label for them.

I have heard of churches using fingerprint readers.  We haven't tested it and it'd be neat to see how it works.  We too need to keep better track of our younger teens because as of right now there is no attendance tracking for them.

Have you heard if F1 works well with fingerprint scanners. Do you have a web address - I'd like to check this out for our youth.

For our student ministries we are using these barcode only stickers.  You can purchased them from pos computers.  Dall Dan Bailey there he has them.  Our youth stick them on their cell phones.. they never go anywhere without them.  Also we have some kids who use thier student ID cards from school.  There is a barcode on it and we can that is as thier bar code.

     Dan's contact info.

For our youth, we use the actual key tags but instead of expecting a 14 year old to carry around keys, we made lanyards for them.  The lanyards have our youth logo on them and the students love them!  If they do drive, then they can put it all on the lanyard and even if they don't, most students wear ID's to school anyway and they just use it for that.  Hope this helps!
