    USB Printer Cable at Checkin

We are setting up our new check in systems....with new computers...and we are having trouble using the USB cable with our printers.  Every time we boot up the printer is not recognized and we then struggle through getting it to work.  My IT department put in a support ticket to F1 and they said USB is not supported and the check in software  is written to identify a LPTI port only.  What are other churches doing to work around this?

    Thank you.

    Linda,

We do have a "work around" but it is again just that.  We have plans to more tightly integrate USB support for the thermal printers but for now you will have to follow the instructions listed in the support tab.  Click support in the upper right corner, then select find answers, then type in "USB" in the search text.  Answer ID 117 will give you the details of how to configure your computer to allow for USB access to the thermal printers.

    Thanks,

    Linda,

I think you are better off using older machines with a parallel port than new machines with USB.  The USB solution requires you to install the Zebra drivers.  We found them to be slow, unstable and unreliable.  We had nothing but trouble with the Zebra printer drivers when we used Shelby for children's check-in (back in the day).

We considered using the USB solution once (because we forgot how bad the drivers were).  Our 5-year old Compaqs with Celeron processors were faster at printing than a 1-year old Pentium 4 machine (at that time) attempting to print via USB.  Nevermind that the driver could flake out on you while your trying to check in a child.
